Downgrade iPhone 3G / 3GS Baseband 06.15.00 To 05.13.04 for Unlock with Redsn0w 0.9.14b1

iPhone Dev Team and its well known genius star MuscleNerd had been working very keenly on a project Baseband downgrade of iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. The downgrade was targeted at devices with Baseband version 06.15.00 to a previous one while maintaining full unlock and GPS support. Though the devices are old and this crack may not be useful for most of the people with iPhone 3G or 3GS, but those having trouble in attaining unlock with GPS support.

While the new iOS 6 is about to release this fall with lots of exciting features which include direct Facebook integration into iOS and Apple Maps in place of Google Maps which massively depends on device’s GPS, this downgrade is a wonderful feature by iPhone Dev Team in Redsn0w 0.9.14b1. If you are having one such iPhone 3G or 3GS with unusable GPS then get ready this guide will help you get your iPhone 3G / 3GS unlock and with fully working GPS to gear you up for the new iOS 6.

Step-by-Step Downgrade iPhone 3G / 3GS from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04

Requirements

  • iPhone 3G / 3GS with running Baseband version 06.15.00 (Devices only with BaseBand ver 06.15.00). No other device is supported.
  • Check if your iPhone serial no’s digits 3,4 and 5 are 134, if yes DO NOT run this downgrade as it will brick radio of your iPhone and you will not be able to connect to any carrier.

Steps to Follow for Downgrade

Step-1: Download Redsn0w 0.9.14b for your Mac or Windows PC.

Step-2: Unzip the files to an appropriate location / folder.

Step-3: Now download the iOS version running on your devices. The version of iOS currently running on your iPhone 3G / 3GS can be found by following Settings > General > About > Version. To download your version of iOS IPSW file you can use google search.

Step-4: Launch Redsn0w 0.9.14b1 from the extracted location – Step-2. For Windows user “Run as Administrator”.

Step-5: Click on Extras button on Redsn0w main window.

Step-6: Now click on “Select IPSW” button and select the file downloaded at step-3 and select open on select file dialog.

Step-7: After selecting IPSW file, Redsn0w will ask you whether you have an older bootrom or a new one. Please read the instructions carefully and select appropriate action. Be sure to use the correct option or this may lead to loss of data or even brick your iPhone radio by which you will not be able to use your iPhone as a mobile due to no network /carrier connectivity.

Step-8: Click on Back button to go back to the main screen and click on “JailBreak”. This will start Jailbreak of the selected IPSW file. Be patient as this process will take some time to complete after which you will be presented with selectable options from a menu.

Step-9: Select “Downgrade from iPad Baseband and Install Cydia” from the option menu that appeared after completion of “Jailbreak” process and press “Next”. (In case your iPhone is already Jailbroken and Cydia is installed you do not need to select this option.)

Step-10: On completion of Step-9, Redsn0w will ask for DFU for which follow the instruction carefully. Be patient in following the process to get into DFU mode as this may take a few tries to be successful after which press “Next”.

Step-11: If you have successfully completed the DFU mode process your device will switch on and Redsn0w will do the necessary process to downgrade your iPhone’s Baseband to 05.13.04. This will take a while so wait and its better to leave your device unattended for a while.

Step-12: On boot up of your iPhone 3G / 3GS, just launch Cydia from the home screen and install Ultrasn0w 1.2.7  to unlock your device.

Step-13: In Cydia search type ultrasn0w and hit search.

Step-14: Now select the ultrasn0w 1.2.7 package from the search result list and click install.

Step-15: Select “Restart Springboard” to reboot your device. On reboot your device will be unlocked for any carrier.
